The Department of History and War Studies offers two rigorous, challenging, flexible, and rewarding majors. The major in History imparts historical knowledge, appreciation of history, and the critical thinking and communication skills necessary for cadets to become successful leaders and understand human behavior, ideas, and actions. Cadets majoring in History choose between stems in American History, International History, or Military History. The War Studies major analyzes war, strategy, and warfare in past, present, and future frames to allow cadets to better understand and prepare to lead in war. Cadets majoring in War Studies select one of three concentrations: Warfare and Operations; Strategic Studies; and War, Society, and Institutions.
