SCOPE
This course provides the Cadets with a comprehensive set of basic combative skills applicable to all soldiers and is particularly geared for use in a combat scenario. A graduated approach to responding appropriately to aggression will be stressed as well as appropriate body mechanics, aggressiveness, and fear management. The two combat ranges emphasized in this course are the grappling and clinching ranges. The grappling emphasis of the course is designed to enhance the cadets? knowledge and appreciation for fighting on the ground. Positional theory and submission holds will be emphasized. Cadets are evaluated in their functional ability to apply their grappling knowledge. The second portion of the class focuses on the clinching aspect of fighting and the emphasis shifts from the ground into the standing realm of hand to hand combat. Cadets are taught how to close the distance and achieve the clinch with the enemy while taking minimal damage. From the clinch position the cadets are taught how to incorporate extreme close-quarters strikes performed with various parts of their bodies. The final method of cadet evaluation for this course is the SCAR (Situational, Combatives, Assault, Readiness) evaluation. The cadets will be evaluated on their functional ability to perform and improvise the clinch fighting skills they have learned and will also be evaluated on their ability to show warrior ethos and fear management.
