SCOPE
This course serves a dual purpose. It is an introduction to the concept of management as well as an introduction to the multidisciplinary nature of the management field of study. This course focuses on the managerial activities that organizational leaders use to effectively and efficiently direct the resources of organizations. As a result, the course is structured around the primary concepts of planning and decision-making, organizing, leading and controlling. In addition, cadets will examine the concepts of ethical and global management as they learn to analyze operating environments, assess organizational capabilities and develop feasible courses of action.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
One individual paper (2-3 pages) and individual presentation (10-15 minutes). One group paper (15 pages) and group presentation (30 minutes) based on integration and synthesis of course material through a managerial assessment of an organization.

SCOPE
This course surveys the field of general management. It introduces cadets to the many managerial activities organizational leaders use to effectively and efficiently direct an organization's resources (human, financial, physical, and information). Cadets' multidisciplinary study of these activities will focus on the integration of behavioral, quantitative, and economic sciences through the management framework of planning and decision making, organizing, leading, and controlling. In addition cadets will examine the history of the field of management. The concepts of ethical management, cultural diversity, and Total Quality Management will be stressed throughout the entire course as cadets learn to define problems, generate alternatives, and then develop and implement plans to solve those problems.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Two group papers (5-7 pages) and one group presentation that integrate and synthesize course material through case study analysis. In addition, an analysis of a prominent leader/manager is required.
