They develop subordinates in such a fashion as to foster teamwork, cohesion, and the desire to excel in all areas of endeavor. In CTLT, the cadet is evaluated by the officer chain of command in his/her unit and receives a MD400 grade of Pass/Fail. For West Point Details, the First Class cadet is evaluated by the cadet chain of command and company Tactical Officer and receives a grade for MD400, which is a numerically weighted average of the submitted grades. | |||||||||

Cadet officers learn the basic duties and responsibilities of a commissioned officer by leading in either an active Army unit during cadet Troop Leader Training (CTLT), or in a Cadet Basic Training (CBT), Cadet Field Training (CFT), Summer Garrison Regiment (SGR), or Air Assault cadre position. They set the example for all subordinates by establishing, attaining, maintaining, and exhibiting sound goals, standards of behavior, and values within the organization. They develop subordinates in such a fashion as to foster teamwork, cohesion, and the desire to excel in all areas of endeavor. Areas of responsibility include: (1) Supervising subordinates. (2) Conducting inspections. (3) Presenting instruction. (4) Counseling as a means of facilitating the development of subordinates. (5) Gaining familiarity with the administrative, logistical, and maintenance functions of a company-sized unit. (6) Conducting physical training. (7) Assisting in evaluating a unit's fitness level and providing input to unit's fitness program. (8) Developing subordinate leaders through frequent interaction and setting the example as practiced through the Principles of Leader-Subordinate Relationships. (9) Following the orders, policies, and decisions of cadet and commissioned officers in the chain of command. (10) Planning, preparing, executing, and supervising both individual and collective performance-oriented training. Cadet officers are evaluated by the chain of command and tactical officer in CBT and by the chain of command, platoon trainer, and company trainer in CFT. In CTLT the cadet is evaluated by the officer chain of command in his/her unit. Evaluation is based on performance within the framework of the leader characteristics.
