SCOPE
First and Second Class cadets will serve as members of the cadet Chain of Command for a West Point Leader Detail. First Class cadets, as Senior NCOs or officers, learn the basic duties and responsibilities of a commissioned officer by leading in a cadet summer training assignment. They set the example for all subordinates by establishing and attaining sound goals, maintaining standards of behavior, and demonstrating values within the organization. They develop subordinates in such a fashion as to foster teamwork, cohesion, and the desire to excel in all areas of endeavor. Second Class cadets serve as cadet noncommissioned officers. This affords them the opportunity to learn and experience the roles and functions of non-commissioned officers in military units while training and leading their subordinates in both individual and collective training. First and Second Class cadets are evaluated by the cadet chain of command and company Tactical Officer and receive a grade for MD300, which is a numerically weighted average of the submitted grades.

SCOPE
Second Class cadets will serve in either Drill Cadet Leader Training, Cadet Troop Leader Training, or as a member of the cadet cadre for a West Point leadership detail. At DCLT, Second Class cadets learn the basic duties and responsibilities of noncommissioned officers by serving as a drill instructor at one of the Army's Basic Training installations. CTLT offers the opportunity for Second Class cadets to learn the basic duties and responsibilities of a commissioned officer by serving as a platoon leader in an active Army unit. During West Point details, Second Class cadets serve as cadet noncommissioned officer leaders of the New Cadets and Third Class cadets. In CTLT and DCLT, the Second Class cadet is evaluated by the officer chain of command in his/her unit and receives a MD300 grade of Pass/Fail. For West Point Details, the Second Class cadet is evaluated by the cadet chain of command and company Tactical Officer and receives a grade for MD300, which is a numerically weighted average of the submitted grades.

Cadet sergeants will serve in either Drill Cadet Leader Training, Cadet Troop Leader Training, or as a member of the cadet cadre for Cadet Basic Training or Cadet Field Training. At DCLT, cadet sergeants learn the basic duties and responsibilities of a noncommissioned officer by serving as a drill instructor at one of the Army's Basic Training installations. During CBT and CFT, cadet sergeants serve as the noncommissioned leaders of the cadet regiments. CTLT offers the opportunity for cadet sergeants to learn the basic duties and responsibilities of a commissioned officer by serving as a platoon leader in an active Army unit. Cadet sergeants are evaluated by the cadet chain of command and Tactical Officer in CBT and CFT. In DCLT, the Cadet Sergeant is evaluated by his/her chain of command in the basic training unit. In CTLT, the cadet is evaluated by the officer chain of command in his/her unit. Evaluation is based on performance within the framework of the Seven Army Values and 16 Leadership Characteristics. For the detail, a MD grade is awarded by the cadet chain of command and the company Tactical Officer. The final grade is a numerical weighted average of the submitted grades. For DCLT and CTLT, the cadet receives a grade of Pass/Fail.

SCOPE

Cadet sergeants are exposed to the Army training system; they learn how to plan, prepare, execute, and evaluate performance-oriented training. Areas of responsibility include: (1) Presenting small unit classes on basic military skills. (2) Performing duties as assistant or primary instructor. (3) Conducting squad or platoon-level physical training. (4) Conducting inspections. (5) Working independently while supervising subordinates. (6) Developing counseling skills through practice and observation. (7) Supporting policies, goals, and decisions of cadet officer leadership. (8) Preparing, conducting, and evaluating performance-oriented training. Cadet sergeants are evaluated by the cadet chain of command and tactical NCO in CBT and by the chain of command, platoon trainer, and company trainer in CFT. In DCLT, the Cadet Sergeant is evaluated by his/her chain of command in the basic training unit. In CTLT, the cadet is evaluated by the officer chain of command in his/her unit. Evaluation is based on performance within the framework of the Leader Characteristics. The cadet receives a MD grade for MD300.
