SCOPE
Cadet privates first class (PFC) participate in a demanding eight-week training program that further develops proficiency in Military Qualification Standards I (MQS-1) individual tasks and exposes the Third Class cadet to tasks that require teamwork. Because teams must be led, the demands of military leadership become clearer. During Cadet Field Training the cadet PFC begins the transformation from follower to leader. Each cadet PFC serves as an acting corporal and team leader within the squad for a minimum of one week. Additionally, various training situations provide opportunities for Third Class cadets to serve as leaders where they are observed by the cadet chain of command and officers. The goals of MD200 are to: (1) Develop tactical and technical proficiency of the cadets in selected tasks that are essential to the small-unit leader. (2) Provide an opportunity to experience proper, effective small-unit leadership in a tactical field environment. (3) Develop a sense of team spirit and teamwork. (4) Train and test selected Common Core pre-commissioning skills. (6) Continue to develop individual physical fitness, military bearing, and self-discipline. (7) Prepare cadets to be team leaders, responsible for the development of one or more subordinates. (8) Expose cadets to the different branches of the Army. Cadet PFC's are evaluated by their chain of command, a commissioned or noncommissioned officer serving as a platoon trainer, and their company trainer. Evaluation is based on performance data within the framework of the Leader Characteristics. A MD grade is awarded for each detail by the cadet chain of command, the commissioned or noncommissioned officer serving as the platoon trainer, and the company trainer. The final grade is a numerical weighted average of the submitted grades. The cadet's CFT 1 and CFT 2 MD grades are equally weighted and combined to provide an overall MD200 grade.
