The course examines federal environmental law statutes such as the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act. Case studies illustrate the practical application of legal solutions to contemporary environmental problems. As primary objectives, the course seeks (1) to foster understanding of law as providing a means to solve problems of environmental degradation and depletion of scarce resources and (2) to develop appreciation of the fundamental role environmental considerations must play in society's decision-making processes. | |||||||||
