SCOPE
Cadets travel to and reside in a linguistic and cultural community for three weeks. There they use their knowledge of Spanish, its varieties and connected cultures to accomplish learning tasks, solve problems and live daily routines. A structured program of immersion may include visits to sites of military, political, historical, or social significance; official orientations and lectures; meetings with local or national civilian and military leaders; and directed language learning activities. A Department instructor accompanies the participating cadets, who are obliged to use Spanish during this extended stay.

SCOPE
Located in the five major regions (Rio de Janeiro state in the Southwest; Porto Alegre in the South; Salvador, Bahia in the Northeast; Brasilia in the Central-West; and Manaus in the Amazon North) this three-week intensive language program is designed to increase language proficiency and enhance cultural knowledge through interaction with major Brazilian military units and schools; immersion into day-to-day life situations in both large cities and rural areas, and hosting of cadets by pre-selected Brazilian families, predominantly military, for meals and social gatherings as well as discussions about life in Brazil. Cadets will be required to maintain a journal of their trip followed by a written report of their experiences -- all in Portuguese.
