| This course examines a single author's life and work. Authors will be selected by the faculty member teaching the course and advertised at least a year in advance. Cadets engage in the focused and comprehensive study of a particular career by studying representative texts along with biographical and historical contexts. Cadets examine the evolution of an author's thinking and approach to art, the relationship between art and lived experience, and an individual artist's engagement with the ideas and conversations of the age. Possible authors include Euripides, Christopher Marlowe, John Milton, Herman Melville, Emily Dickinson, T. S. Eliot, Elizabeth Bishop, and Toni Morrison. | |||||||||

The course allows cadets to gain an insight into the life and work of important authors deeper than the necessarily limited exposure within a survey or genre course affords.
