| This course examines literary representations of war and violence across cultures and historical periods. Readings in representative texts from a single war or across different conflicts introduce Cadets to the difficulty of comprehending and describing war. Cadets explore the human experience of battle, the way different participants remember the same encounter, and the relationship between language and violence. Topics may include technology and mass mobilization, distinctions between amateur and professional soldiers, and the evolution of linguistic and visual representations of war. | |||||||||
