COURSE TITLE EFF YEAR EFF TERM DEPARTMENT CREDIT HOURS
EM364A MECHANICS OF MATERIALS 1990 1 Civil and Mechanical Engineering 3.5 (BS=0.0, ET=3.5, MA=0.0)
SCOPE
This course is designed for those students who are enrolled in an abet accredited program requiring EM364A. The course studies the behavior of deformable bodies under axial, torsional, flexural, and combined loading. The concepts of stress, strain, and material properties are introduced and are used to relate external forces applied to a body to the resulting internal forces and deformations so that performance can be evaluated. Practical applications involving the design and adequacy of mechanical and structural elements under various loading conditions are emphasized. (Change course # to CE364 effective 2004-1)
LESSONS: 43 @ 55 min (3.000 Att/wk) LABS: 4 @ 120 min
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Several out-of-class design problems are given.
