CE491 (Version: 2027 1) COURSE DETAILS

COURSE TITLE EFF YEAR EFF TERM DEPARTMENT CREDIT HOURS
CE491 ADV STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS 2027 1 Civil and Environmental Engineering 3.0 (BS=0.0, ET=3.0, MA=0.0)
SCOPE
CE491 focuses on computing the response of statically indeterminate structures. This course extends many of the concepts covered in CE403 (Structural Analysis). It introduces matrix methods of analysis that form the basis of all modern structural analysis software. Coursework requires students to consider complex loading scenarios using both flexibility-based and stiffness-based methods of analysis. Students will use state-of-the-art structural analysis software and computer-based numerical software to solve problems of interest.
LESSONS: 30 @ 75 min (2.000 Att/wk) LABS: 0 @ 0 min
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Graded homework is assigned to reinforce concepts covered in class.

COURSE TITLE EFF YEAR EFF TERM DEPARTMENT CREDIT HOURS
CE491 ADV STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS 2026 1 Civil and Environmental Engineering 3.0 (BS=0.0, ET=3.0, MA=0.0)
SCOPE
This course builds upon the material covered in CE403/453 to develop a better understanding of structural behavior. Two-dimensional analysis of trusses and frames is reviewed and extended into 3D. Matrix analysis methods, including an introduction to continuum finite elements are developed as the basis for modern computer-based structural analysis. An introduction to nonlinear analysis is presented. Coursework involves extensive use of the computer as an analytical tool. Students use state-of-the-art structural engineering analysis and design software.
LESSONS: 37 @ 55 min (2.310 Att/wk) LABS: 3 @ 55 min
